Good Morning Spring City Fellowship!
Series Title: The Book of James: Faith that Works
Sermon Title: Living in Light of the Coming Kingdom
Text: James 5:1-11
I am calling this series on the Book of James, “Faith that Works.” The Christian life is lived at the intersection of faith and works. It is not a choice between faith and works. It’s both, not one or the other. Faith has to work. It’s not enough to believe it, you have to do it. It has to change you in fundamental ways so that you embrace transformation. Growing in faith is also a process, and you practice it until you become who you were meant to be.
Having put the question of God’s rightful place in our lives into perspective, James makes a suggestion for how to apply that perspective to our current reality. The powerful and privileged in this world will find that what they have invested their lives into may suddenly become worthless. God’s kingdom requires a different kind of posture - we don’t make it happen; we simply allow it to be so. And God’s Kingdom has an entirely different concept of virtue. Things like honesty, mercy and compassion. We must live our lives in the light of the coming Kingdom.
