The Levites were devoted to serving the Lord and to maintaining the religious life of the community.
During the wilderness wanderings, their job was to carry the items associated with the tabernacle - the dwelling place of God among his people. Now that the tabernacle has a permanent and central home. The new priestly function is not just to offer sacrifices for sin, but to help in administering justice. And that is also our role and priestly believers under the New Covenant.
